Biography

Jordan Konisky earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry from Providence College, and a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

He began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin in the department of medical genetics in 1968. He completed his postdoctoral work at Yale University's department of molecular biophysics and biochemistry in 1970.

He joined the faculty of the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1970 as an assistant professor in the department of microbiology. He was named an associate professor in 1975 and a full professor in 1981.

In 1984, Jordan Konisky was named head of the Department of Microbiology. Five years later he was named director of the univer-sity's School of Life Sciences. He was named director of the biotechnology center in 1995.

Jordan Konisky is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, and the American Chemical Society.

His awards and honors include a faculty fellowship from the Association of Western Universities-U.S. Department of Energy in 1994 to study at Berkeley. He is an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow and an elected Fellow of the American Society for Microbiology. Jordan Konisky has served on numerous academic and administrative committees during his career.
